configuration cannot be completed

Hi, I'm installing on a standalone server for POC. Installation of the solution was no problem. All steps in the installation guide have been completed to the letter. The configuration fails on Section 4. "Configure the Site Directory Site", step 3 - the error message is. "This not a valid site directory. Specify a URL to a site that is using the site directory template." The feature has been activated on the site (http://server/sites/SiteDirectory/), server restart and IIS reset have been tried. The user is farm admin. Any ideas??

It sounds like you may be using the wrong site directory administration pages. Please check that you are using the pages labelled as 'site directory 2010' not just 'site directory'.

Well spotted. Got it working now :)

It all begs the question really, why the site directory function has been dropped in the first place? and thereby; why, if it's been dropped, is there a default menu option to configure it?

Now all we need in the next release is to be able to have more than one site directory.

It is a very valid question... this presentation explains some of the reasons why the 2007 version was dropped:

The 2007 admin links are inlcuded in 2010 to support upgrade scenarios.

If support for multiple site directories on the same farm is a requirement for you, please add it to the issue tracker as a feature request and I'll consider it for the next release.
