These are the ideas we already have in mind:

  • Re-develop using the service application framework
  • Add an optional ‘pester block’ which encourages site owners to complete the listing. This would introduce support for non-standard metadata
  • Multi-lingual support
  • Include optional support for sub-sites
  • Allow admins to add new columns on the fly and have the scan job get the data from somewhere (not sure where, how etc.)
  • Streamline deployment so that it is entirely automated
  • Site security mirroring onto site listing
  • Add 'last run time' to administration pages for each job

Give, "Site Directory 2010" a config selection which will hide the built-in Site Directory tools (under General Application Settings) for Central Admin.

Enhance the listing as delivered to reflect the Farm's logical architecture (tree-view approach) as:

Primary Site One

Subsite One

Subsite Two

Sub-subsite One

Primary Site Two

Subsite One

v1.4 now uses the site's icon in the Sites Listing, but not all sites/subsites have one.

Utilize the default SharePoint icon for all sites listed, unless an icon actually exists - then use its actual site icon.

FYI, this has been addressed in v0.5 which is now avaliable. I'd be interested in any feedback you have on how this was addressed.

Why is the metadata's navigation configuration option not there? Could it be added somehow, adding the website's welcome page metadata?Thank you

The reason we did not build metadata navigation into the default configuration is because we cannot assume the presence of the metadata service application so decided to leave this as something that admins can configure after deployment. The site listings list is just a regular list so you can add these kinds of settings via the list settings interface.
